Eames Vitra Fiberglass Chair: the return of an Icon

After 20 years, the Eames Fiberglass Chair returns to production. The innovative production techniques have finally allowed Vitra to reintroduce in its catalog the iconic fiberglass shell in six of the original colors. This particular shell owes its charm to the irregular surface of the glass fiber that seems almost a natural material, thanks to its particularly visible and very pleasant to touch fibers.

The re-edition of the Eames Fiberglass Chair, available in the first colors, can be combined with a four-legged wooden base, a steel tubular base or the Eiffel Tower base. The version with polypropylene Eames Plastic Chair also remains in the collection.

For the Dining Height Side Chair Wood Base (DSW), Charles and Ray Eames combined the organically shaped seat shell with a four-legged wooden base. The pairing of plastic and wood gives the classic design a certain warmth and casual appeal.

The so-called Eiffel Tower base of the DSR chair (Dining Height Side Chair Rod Base), an intricate and graceful construction made of steel wire, combines light, elegant forms with structural strength.

With its four-legged base in tubular steel, the DSX (Dining Height Side Chair X-Base) is the most understated version of Charles and Ray Eames's classic chair.
