Verner Panton developed the idea of a plastic cantilever chair at the end of the 1950s. Many years and countless prototypes later, Vitra presented the revolutionary chair at the imm furniture exhibition in Cologne in 1968. The original version of the chair with a glossy lacquer finish is still available today under the name Panton Chair Classic.

He used sketches to establish the positions of the human body that the seating designs had to refl ect. Of course, there would never have been a collection without the collaboration of Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand either.
